Here's a little quick guide on how I do my coloring process. I'm using this Magneto pic that I'm doing for a collab with my homie ~Chizel-Man but while I'm waiting for his part, I'll use this as a tutorial
*To help you understand better you can download the actual Photoshop file by clicking HERE ...Trust Me, it'll really help, I recommend it *
*Oh yea, and with this tutorial, I'm assuming you DO have some photoshop knowledge
HERE ARE THE STEPS TO TAKE:
1. Duplicate lines layer and set it to Mulitply
*Color Holds help, but aren't necessary*
2. Set your "Flat" (Base) Colors layer(s) underneath Duplicate Lines Layer):
-a. Use either the magic wand or the lasso tool to select your area to color, I usually have more than 1 "flats" layer
3. Set your "Highlights" layer(s) above Flat Colors layer(s)
-a. Use lasso tool to select area for highlights and use a soft brush to give a more "shaded" look
4. Hue setting (Optional) *Applies to your Base Layer(s)*:
* This step is totally optional, I personally use it to give my work a more "comic-ish" type feel, it helps the image work a little better with backgrounds.
-a. Go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation
-b. Set the hue depending on the color of background
-c. Lower the Saturation depending on how dark the background is.
5. Lighting and Glow (Optional) *Applies to your Highlight Layer(s)*
-a. lower the opacity to your "Highlight" Layer(s)
-b. Go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation
-c. Set your hue to whatever color your light source is
-d. Bring up the lightness depending on your light source intensity
-e. Go to your blending options and double-click "Outer Glow"
-f. Set your glow color
-g. Lower glow opacity to about 23%
-h. Bring up the "Size" slider depending on what you want your "Glow" intensity to be
-i. Bring your "Range" slider up to help give it a more realistic look.
I hope this helps
